(event is over)

Join us for a panel discussion on the future of solar energy with a focus on exciting projects happening right here in Middleton! Our panel includes representatives from the City as well as engineers and industry experts. A policy expert from the Wisconsin Energy Institute will share his thoughts on the future of solar energy in the Midwest and the country as a whole. Also at this event, the City of Middleton will unveil a new solar energy initiative: The extension of the City of Madison's MadiSUN solar panel group purchase program to City of Middleton residents! Katherine Klausing from RENEW Wisconsin will be on hand to answer questions about the program. Panelists scheduled to attend: Mike Davis, Middleton City Administrator Spencer Schumacher, Chair of the City's Sustainability Committee Michael Vickerman, Program and Policy Director at RENEW Wisconsin David B. Toso, Senior Engineer at Madison Gas & Electric Gary Radloff, UW-Madison researcher and Director of Midwest Energy Policy Analysis at the Wisconsin Energy Institute The City of Middleton has long been a leader in sustainable energy, especially when it comes to solar power. In 2009, the City adopted a 25 x 25 resolution stating that the City will procure 25% of municipal electricity needs and 25% of municipal transportation fuels from renewable resources by 2025. The next year, the City adopted a comprehensive Sustainable City Plan. In 2014, the City installed the first first City-owned solar project on the Terrace Avenue Pavilion. And late last year, engineers completed construction of a 500-kilowatt (kW) solar array on the roof of the City's Municipal Operations Center. MG&E made the energy produced by this array available to customers through a pilot project called Shared Solar, in which utility customers purchased shares of locally generated solar power.
