Cookbook Book Group - In Bibi's Kitchen
For the first time ever the cookbook book group will be meeting in person! We hope you will join us in reading In Bibi’s Kitchen and trying a few of the recipes. On Thursday, July 28, we will come together for a potluck to try some of the foods and talk about what we learned.
In this incredible volume, Somali chef Hawa Hassan and food writer Julia Turshen present 75 recipes and stories gathered from bibis (or grandmothers) from eight African nations. The grandmothers welcome us into their kitchens to share flavorful recipes and stories of family, love, and tradition in this transporting cookbook-meets-travelogue.
The eight countries: South Africa, Mozambique, Madagascar, Comoros, Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, and Eritrea are at the backbone of the spice trade, many of them exporters of things like pepper and vanilla, so we should be in for some culinary treats!
